I hope that you and your loved ones are healthy and in high spirits after the first week of our national lockdown. We have been working around the clock to stay stocked up on our core product lines and reduce shortages as far as possible. 

Unfortunately, some of our suppliers have had to close during this time, which means some of your favourite products are out of stock. We see this as an exciting opportunity to forge new partnerships and we’re already stocking some of these new product lines on our online store

On a separate note, Buyfresh is a new business and we are learning as we go, as we work towards long-term sustainability. This means we need to change some elements of our business model from time-to-time.

Over the last month, we’ve experimented with our delivery model to assist in covering the costs of managing door-to-door logistics. We’ve previously absorbed this cost, but this is affecting some of our long-term goals.

You might have noticed that we upped the minimum spend for free orders to R1 000. Unfortunately, this hasn’t solved our problem and means that from 6 April 2020, we started charging a nominal delivery fee. We’re confident that these charges will still be more affordable than many other retail options and are listed below.

  • Daily delivery cost – R50 (Cape Town based suburbs)
  • Weekly delivery cost – R90 (Cape Winelands, Somerset West, Noordhoek, Simon’s Town and other nearby suburbs)

Our packaging partners are also feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and we won’t be able to currently supply our beloved orange cooler bags. But we have a plan. We’ve sourced eco-friendly insulated cardboard boxes. These boxes will not only improve the insulation of food products, but they are also lined with a material made with new technology that eliminates the need for polystyrene.

I do encourage you to keep returning your cooler bags and icepacks with our drivers the next time your order from us. Or, even better, return them as soon as you receive your order if possible. This will further assist us in achieving our goal of being carbon efficient. In addition, we have always had a strong sanitisation procedure to process all returned bags and icepacks, but we’ve turned it up a notch during the COVID-19 crisis.

Your experience remains our highest priority in every aspect. Whether you’re a regular shopper, a first-timer or a supportive bystander, we will be constantly be finding ways to add further value to your shopping experience with us. Your delight in our products and service is at the core of our business culture.

Our mission remains to support small-scale farmers, family-run businesses, independent producers and other local businesses with access to market and distribution. Many of our key suppliers are under enormous pressure during these tough times and we are delighted to be in a position to help them.

We’re also taking care of our staff, offering secure transport to and from work, protective personal care for themselves and their families and nutritious meals and snacks to ensure that we all remain healthy and in high spirits.
